Herb Schrami is an artist and muralist who was born in Germany and classically trained in Munich at the Academie’ of Art. In southern Bavaria, where he was from, it was traditional for buildings to have murals painted on them, and for a short time he worked on the restoration of murals in the Bavarian area. During WWII, in his early 20s, he immigrated to the US and initially settled in the southern area of Puget Sound, WA. However, through a partnership with the designer Heins Ulbricht, he began to commute to Leavenworth, WA to paint murals on the then small town’s buildings. He eventually moved there and for the last 50 years has been instrumental in the “Bavarian-izing” of Leavenworth, having painted well over 100 murals in this now famous and picturesque mountain town.
